Electronic waste or 'e-waste' is the fastest growing type of waste in the world (estimated at 80,000 tonnes per year in NZ) and is more toxic than normal house hold rubbish.  Electronic equipment contains toxic heavy metals and hazardous materials. If e-waste is disposed of improperly, these toxic substances can pose a serious risk to the environment and people.
