Q. How much will I save by having insulation installed?
A. Insulation in the ceiling can cut heat loss by up to 40%, under floor insulation can cut loss by 15%. To work out your costs and savings, try this ENERGY CALCULATOR. Back to top
Q. How does Novatherm insulation compare to fibreglass insulation? A.Novatherm is made from hollow-core conjugate polyester fibre, which is non-irritating, non-respirable and has no known health risks. The polyester does not absorb moisture allowing it to retain its loft and insulation properties.Novatherm comes in a roll, not sheets, so it's quick and easy to install, and doesn’t leave any gaps for heat to escape. Find out more about this unique NZ owned and manufactured product at www.novatherm.co.nz Back to top
Q. Is insulation hard to install?
A. So long as your building has an accessible ceiling cavity, or underfloor space, fitting is fairly quick for an experienced installer. Generally, Energy Options can have a standard home's ceiling and underfloor insulated within 3-4 hours. The ideal time to insulate walls is when building new or renovating. Energy Options will provide expert assistance with wall, ceiling and under floor insulation. Back to top

Q. What under floor system does Energy options recommend?

Q. How much will I save by having solar water heating installed? A. It depends on your needs and use of hot water. Hot water makes up around 40% of total power costs in most homes. Many families use as much as 200 litres of hot water per day – solar water heating can reduce the heating cost by up to 75%. To work out your costs and savings, try this ENERGY CALCULATOR or CONTACT US for assistance.
Q. Panel or tube - which kind of solar collector is most effective?
A. Both panel and tube collector systems work well, and are reliable and robust. Both systems can heat similar volumes of hot water. However, evacuated tube systems out-perform flat panels in colder weather. At Energy Options we manage the installation of both kinds of system. The key to a high-performance system is good system design, quality install and realistic specifying. Energy Options is an accredited designer/installer and will ensure your system is installed for maximum performance. Back to top
Q. What size solar collector is best?
A. As a general rule, a collector of two square metres suits a hot water cylinder of around 180 litres and a household of 1–3 people; a collector of three square metres suits a cylinder of around 270 litres and a family of 4-5. Large families or commercial users will need a larger cylinder and more than one collector. Back to top
Q. How do Apricus solar collectors work?
A. Apricus solar panels consist of a row of 20 or 30 (depending on size) extremely strong glass tubes. The sun’s rays pass through each tube to heat a copper heat pipe, which carries the heat to the top of the panel, where it is transferred into your water heating system. This is a highly efficient system providing maximum solar gain. A working model can be viewed at the Energy Options showroom. Back to top
Q. Will my home be suitable for solar?
A. Most existing homes and new designs can be fitted with solar. Energy Options' solar team will design your system to achieve the best performance for your site. Back to top
Q. Is solar water heating a hassle?
A. Not if it’s done right. There should be no extra maintenance tasks and systems are long-lasting. Modern control panels make it easy to boost your water temperature with electricity, if needed, at the flick of a switch. Panel and tube collectors both look good – they will be barely noticeable on your roof. Find out more at www.apricus-solar.com or CONTACT US for a no obligation quote. Back to top
Q. How quickly can Energy Options get started?
